What is Reiki?

The History of Reiki (Usui Method)

Reiki was discovered by a Japanese doctor, Dr. Mikao Usui in 1922, in his personal search to find an additional way to help people to heal. Today, there are Reiki practitioners worldwide! Loosely translated, Reiki means a universally or spiritually guided (Rei) energy (ki). It is based on the idea that energy flows through all beings and when this energy is low or negative, we are more prone to illness and stress but when this energy is high or positive we are capable of being in a state of health, wellness and peace.

Reiki is a holistic therapy which treats the body, mind and spirit and can be used in conjunction with other healing and medical modalities and is open to all belief systems. Because Reiki is universal life force energy, it cannot do any harm and will always go where it is needed during a treatment.

Reiki Treatments and Benefits

In a Reiki treatment, the practitioner will place their hands directly on or just above the body of the client and work through a series of hand positions relating to the various energy centres in the body. Reiki heals by flowing through the practitioner to the client and the affected parts of the client’s energy field, charging those areas with positive energy. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, allowing the life force energy to flow in a healthy and natural way.

Clients can either sit or lay on a massage table, whichever is most comfortable and are always fully clothed. *Please note that the purpose of a Reiki Treatment is to support the healing potential and process within us. These treatments are not meant to diagnosis nor should they replace veterinarian / medical care.

The benefits of Reiki are numerous and include relaxation, relieving stress, increasing focus, better sleep, boosting the immune system, increasing energy levels and promoting balance of the body, mind and spirit.

Animals can also benefit from Reiki in the same way that people can, in fact they are usually more sensitive to the energies around them and are often more open to receiving this wonderful healing energy, just as children are! This is because they generally have such open minds and hearts, something we should strive to do at any age.
